Statement on AI use

Vegius wants to work with and support human ethical travel agents, not replace them. Their experience, local knowledge and personal care matter. We see AI as a tool that can complement their expertise and make compassionate travel easier to plan.

AI has an environmental footprint. Running models uses electricity and cooling water, while training models and manufacturing hardware add wider costs. Individual text interactions can use comparatively little electricity: Google’s self-reported 2025 study estimated 0.24 watt-hours for a median Gemini text prompt, roughly the electricity used by a television in nine seconds.

That is an illustration of one provider’s operational energy use, not a measurement of a Vegius itinerary or AI’s full life-cycle impact. A complete plan can involve multiple AI requests, searches and other services. We have not measured Vegius’s full footprint, so we do not claim a precise food equivalent or guaranteed environmental savings.

Our aim is to use AI for good: helping more people discover and support vegan businesses and animal sanctuaries, and making vegan travel more accessible. These potential benefits do not erase AI’s costs or other valid concerns. Technology should support informed human judgement and more compassionate, environmentally conscious choices.

No. Vegius plans your trip and gives you booking links to take wherever you want to book. It does not take payment for travel and does not act as a booking agent.

The agent enforces your exclusions across the entire itinerary and corrects itself if something slips through. Place results are filtered against a vegan whitelist. For the moments when you are standing in a shop holding a label you cannot read, there is an ingredient scanner built in.

We only draw from sources that identify as vegan or vegan-friendly, and we flag the difference. Fully vegan venues are marked as such; vegan-friendly ones are labelled so you know to check the menu. We never guess. If we're not sure, we say so or leave it out.

Yes. Plans work for any destination. The app itself is English only for now; more languages are on the roadmap.

It's a real concern and we don't wave it away. Data centres use electricity and, for cooling, water. A trip plan on Vegius is a handful of short AI requests, small in absolute terms but not zero, and we treat it that way: we cap free plans, we don't run AI on anything a simple search could do, and we're moving to smaller, more efficient models as they become reliable. For scale, the water footprint of one animal-based meal is measured in hundreds of litres; a full Vegius plan is measured in millilitres. If a plan helps one trip stay vegan, the animals and the water both come out ahead. We'll publish our per-plan footprint estimate once we have a full quarter of usage data to base it on.
