Vegan Backpackers Hostel in the heart of Bengaluru

The BeAnimal hostel is a one-of-a-kind gem in the heart of Bangalore city. It is a place for travellers and locals alike to come and hang out. We offer a comfortable place to live that feels like a home away from home. We have 3 dorms in total - one for female travellers and 2 mixed dorms. Each room has an en-suite bathroom. We request guests not to consume any animal products while they are inside the hostel premises. We are also an alcohol and drug free hostel.

The vibe at BeAnimal is very relaxed and serene - almost like an ashram. We have an on-site vegan cafe where you can eat delicious meals that will make you feel super great! We also host regular cacao ceremonies and also weekly brunches - people from all over town come to BeAnimal to attend these! It's a great way to meet people who are like minded. We are passionate about sustainability and our hostel runs mostly on solar power. We also have a vegetable garden and compost all of our food waste.

The space

The BE ANIMAL Hostel in Bangalore is the only vegan backpacker hostel in India. It is located in 6th block Koramangala which is one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods of the city. The hostel is surrounded by greenery and the idea was to create an oasis of bliss and purity inside a bustling urban metropolis with 11 million people. The hostel has 30 beds, 3 bathrooms, 2 terraces, 2 co-working spaces and a garden. We compost all our organic waste and reuse all the greywater from our kitchen sink to water the garden. We also have plans to install a 5 kWh solar PV system and a rainwater harvesting system that can save over 90,000 litres of water per year.

The goal of starting a hostel like this was to bring the global environmental community together to create a better future for all of us. We would like to connect with environmentally conscious individuals, companies and organizations in India and around the world to move towards a common goal.

We only serve vegan food within the hostel premises and guests are requested not to bring any animal products into the hostel. The aim is to get the people who visit us to think more deeply about their contribution to the planet as well as the extent of animal suffering that goes into the production of eggs, meat and dairy. Most of our guests are non-vegan and choose to support us nevertheless. We host many events, workshops and movie screenings at the hostel. It is also a great place to socialize and meet other like-minded people.

We use the money generated by the Hostel to fund our environmental education Initiatives and we plant a tree for every guest who stays with us. We opened on the 28th of December 2019 and BE ANIMAL has been a popular choice for eco-friendly, budget accomodation in the city ever since.

Plant based ingredients have a much lower carbon footprint than dairy and meat. This means that much fewer greenhouse gasses like carbon-di-oxide and methane are emitted during their production. This means that they are better for the planet and help keep global warming in check.
